BACKGROUND
Ms. Hicks has been practicing intellectual property law since 1992.
Ms. Hicks received a Bachelors of Laws degree from the University of Ottawa in 1992 and was called to the bar of Ontario in 1994. She is also called to the bar of Alberta. She qualified as a patent agent in Canada in 1995 and became a Canadian trade-mark agent in 1996. Prior to that, she had received a Bachelor of Science degree from Queens University in Physical Therapy (1986) and worked as a physiotherapist before joining the IP profession in 1992.
PRACTICE
Her practice is focussed on domestic patent prosecution, domestic and foreign trade-marks and industrial design prosecution, copyright, related IP opinion work as well as technology commercialization agreements.
Ms. Hicks is a former editor of the Canadian Intellectual Property Review and a former assistant editor of the Canadian Patent Reporter. She has authored articles on various patent and trade-mark related topics and is a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC).
Ms. Hicks is an active volunteer and has served on and continues to serve on a number of volunteer boards. She is presently on the Cross Country Alberta board as the director of the Alberta Ski Team.
